The new face in Bay Area hockey needs a name. That is, the SF Bulls’ mascot needs one. I like Ferdinand but I don’t think that would go over well in the ECHL. Maybe it would. I think it would be okay for their mascot to be known as “the only bull who won’t fight.” Mascot fights are kind of silly anyway.
Last Thursday, the Bulls hosted a happy hour get together at ROE in downtown San Francisco. If they do that again, I recommend it. Good food and drink, people who like hockey and a big orange bull. What more could you ask? There’s pictures and more info about that event on the team’s Face Book page. There will probably a similar event this month in Daly City, so keep an eye out for that if you’re in the area.
I visited the Bulls offices a couple of weeks ago while the rodeo was being set up. I think they are on the verge of outgrowing the office space the Cow Palace gave them. It used to be the the horse show office. Don’t know where the horse show office moved to. Season tickets are on sale and selling. Depending on who you ask, sales are going very well, or, since they aren’t selling like Winnipeg Jets tickets, not as well. I hardly think comparing ECHL ticket sales in SF to NHL tickets in Winnipeg is fair. When I stopped in, there was someone there picking out his seats. The Mayor of Daly City has hers. That has to be a good sign. I believe hockey can work in San Francisco, but it will require a little more patience than in an NHL- starved Canadian city.
Best of luck to the new hockey team in town.
